Growing up in Texas, Rebecca Crownover worked on her grandfather’s farm and later on, married a farmer. Tragedy struck her family in 2009 when her husband, a native Texan and farmer, passed away in an ATV accident, leaving Rebecca as a single parent of a toddler. Yet Rebecca’s love of farming prevailed. Today she is a published best-selling author and founder of Texas Farm Girl, a brand that helps ignite a passion for agriculture in farming’s next generation, while teaching life lessons that she herself learned growing up on her PawPaw’s farm. Rebecca remains a business partner at Lone Star Family Farms with her in-laws to carry on her husband’s legacy and to continue her contribution to the farming business, an industry that has always been an important part of her life. Kim Hughes is a 30+ year veteran of education with Master’s degrees in both Elementary Education and School Leadership/Administration. She excels in providing engaging, informative events for educators and administrators of children infant through elementary age. In 2011 she began Conscious Connections, an educational firm that helps teachers, school administrators, child care providers, and parents harness positive discipline techniques and cutting-edge early childhood research to create rewarding relationships and positive learning environments for children from birth to fifth grade.
Kim has worked as both an administrator and a teacher of children birth through fifth grade. As a parent of two, Kim raised her children with positive discipline, the essence of Conscious Discipline, as she wanted her children to learn from their mistakes and to take responsibility for their actions. She discovered the power of Conscious Discipline while serving as an early childhood educator in an inclusive mental health setting. It soon became her passion to share its transformative and empowering message with as many children, parents and educators as possible. Kim has supported Conscious Discipline, school-wide implementation in both early childcare and elementary settings, mentored administrators, conducted both large and small group trainings and worked directly with parents and teachers of children, infant through elementary age.
Kim continues working with young children via ongoing mentoring, modeling, coaching and training. She currently trains early childhood professionals through Project Enlightenment/Wake County Public School System, as well as throughout Wake County, North Carolina, the United States and Canada. In 2010 she received her certification as a Conscious Discipline® Instructor, was promoted to the national level in 2012, and was invited by Dr. Becky Bailey to become one of nine Loving Guidance™ Associates in late 2013. Kim served as North Carolina’s 1999-2000 Teacher of the Year and is very active in local, state and national Association for the Education of Young Children (AEYC) initiatives, and has served as an officer and board member at all levels of the association. Ms. Hughes has worked with the PBS series of both Sesame Street and Danger Ranger as a curriculum developer and specialist and currently consults for Teaching Strategies, Inc. She lives in Wake Forest with her husband, Scott, and their 2 dogs, Stella and Katie.
